From the listing
A used Waterloo by Collings WL-14XTR Longhorn has arrived in stock. Based on the popular WL-14XTR model from Waterloo—Collings’ vintage-inspired brand—this is a Japan-exclusive “Longhorn” version. It features a “Boot Burst” finish, and the headstock is adorned with a depiction of the iconic Texas “Longhorn.” Inspired by small-bodied guitars from the Great Depression era—such as the 1930s Gibson L-00 and Kalamazoo—this model prioritizes a “dry blues tone” and the “character of an old folk guitar” over flashy aesthetics. It features a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a rosewood fingerboard with simple dot inlays. Both its sound and playability make it the perfect choice for the blues. The neck features a V-shape with a slightly substantial thickness. Unlike modern thin necks, it has a distinct presence the moment you grip it. It allows you to play with power across the entire range from low to high notes, offering the high playability and reassuring feel characteristic of vintage guitars. Combining complex overtones with a dark, nuanced tone, its sound is truly reminiscent of vintage guitars from the Great Depression era. The tone—which isn’t merely flashy but blends a mature, weathered character with a raw, earthy quality—is a perfect match for blues and folk music. The nut has been replaced, and there are scratches on the sides of the nut. Although it has a satin finish, there are areas on the sides of the body and the back of the neck where a sheen has developed from playing. While minor scratches and dents are visible, there is no noticeable damage or signs of heavy wear overall. With 12-53 light-gauge strings installed, the action measures approximately 2.3 mm at the 12th fret on the 6th string and approximately 2.0 mm at the 12th fret on the 1st string. The neck is in good condition, and the frets retain approximately 80% of their original height. The original hard case is included. Top: Solid Spruce Sides & Back: Solid Mahogany Neck: Mahog
