The Retro Series—the culmination of Freedom’s vintage aesthetic—is now available as new-in-used items! Freedom Custom Guitar Research is a Japanese high-end brand based in Arakawa Ward that has earned the trust of a wide range of customers thanks to its proven craftsmanship. The Retro Series has just arrived. As mentioned earlier, these are vintage-style models finished to a high standard based on Freedom’s unique interpretation. The materials include a 2-piece alder body, a maple neck, and Indian rosewood. The neck shape is the slightly thicker FCGR FAT U. Compared to the standard U shape, it offers a grip and sound with a bit more substance. The color is “Burgundy Mist 2.” It’s finished with an ultra-thin nitrocellulose lacquer, and you can see cracks and other signs of aging throughout. It has a character you wouldn’t expect from a guitar manufactured in late 2016. It features 20 of Freedom’s signature stainless steel frets, specifically the “Speedy” type. In addition to their durability, this model offers an exceptionally fast and crisp response. The pickups are Freedom’s original “JB Vintage” model, designed to emulate those found on vintage Jazz Basses. While there are several pickups based on this concept, it’s rare to find one with such a high level of craftsmanship. As mentioned earlier, there are signs of wear—such as cracks—in various places, but both the neck and frets are in excellent condition. The truss rod has plenty of adjustment left, and the playability is outstanding. With its impeccable quality, this is truly a guitar ready to hit the stage right away.
