Pick up the Starlight Hybrid and the first thing you’ll notice is how solid it feels in your hands, and that solidity comes right through in the way the notes sit under your fingers, with a smooth, velvety feel and sustain that just keeps going. A lot of that comes from John Buscarino's patented Dead Bolt neck joint, which gives you the feel and sustain of a neck-through guitar while keeping all the practical upsides of a bolt-on. The body is semi-hollow, with big sound chambers carved out under the top that keep the weight down to a very comfortable 7lbs 13oz and give everything a nice open resonance. And sitting on top of all that is a gorgeous, highly figured flame maple top, which makes it every bit as fun to look at as it is to play. The tones you can pull from this guitar are where this one really gets interesting. There are two of John's signature humbuckers in the neck and bridge with a single coil in the middle, so you’ve got those classic Strat-style in-between tones, warm, full humbucker sounds, and pretty much everything in between. Then there’s a push/push switch on the tone knob that splits either humbucker into a fat single coil, so whichever one you’re on, you can flip between humbucker and single coil with a quick push and flip right back again. The neck is a slightly chunky C that fills your hand nicely without being so particular that only certain players will get along with it, and most people are going to feel at home on it right away. Put all of that together, the range of sounds, the light weight, and how easy it is to play, and you’ve got a guitar that’s just as comfortable on a jazz gig as it is playing country, rock, or anything else you throw at it. If you can only bring one guitar to the gig, this is a pretty great one to grab.
