Or very good. Herd culling. This was my earliest "NEVER SELL THIS IS AWESOME" amp. Both insanely good clean and don't need a pedal for crunch channels. And it sounds great at low volume with the master. Hasn't left a studio in 20 years because..right its heavy as shit. So I am moving toward a rack of heads for in house, and a small group of easier to pick up and play out combos. This is in the middle. This isn't made any more - first design after the Ecstacy. This is the EL34 80 Watt version. I am the 2nd owner. It is the Silverback - I think this was early 2000's - if you are dorking out which means: Premium Construction: Owners note that these early models feature chassis-mounted potentiometers with hand-soldered flying leads. Later "Green Back" versions switched to PCB-mounted pots to cut down on production time and costs. [1, 2] The Tone: Silver back models are generally described as sounding a bit more raw, punchy, and less compressed than the later revisions. [1, 2] The "Wacky" Effects Loop: The most important thing to know about a silver back Shiva is its effects loop. It is a series loop that operates at line level and requires a special insert cable (a TRS stereo-to-dual-mono cable, often referred to as a "ducking cable") to work properly with standard guitar pedals. If you plug a normal patch cable straight into it, you will experience a massive volume drop or signal loss. [1, 2] Non-Adjustable Boost: The foot-switchable boost on these early models is fixed. When you click the boost, it bypasses the clean channel tone stack to bump your volume and gain. Later green versions added a dedicated "Boost Volume" knob on the front panel so you could control exactly how loud the jump was. [1, 2, 3] Cooling Fan: Many of these units came with a built-in two-speed cooling fan on the back to keep the tubes running stable. (I actually had the fan replaced 15 years ago - it is now NOT noisy. Yes, I will attach the handle - right now I have something stacked on it. Prett
