Up for sale is what is quite literally an irreplaceable piece of boutique guitar amplifier history: an absolute dead-mint, unplayed, time-capsule 1995 Matchless Chieftain 2x12 combo from the prime Mark Sampson era. Acquired directly from Mark Sampson off the Matchless factory floor in 1995 as part of a private trade, this amplifier has spent the last ~30 years stored safely in a climate-controlled environment. It has under 5 minutes of total runtime on the circuit. You will not find another Sampson-era Chieftain in this condition anywhere on earth. Provenance & Proven Authenticity Factory Floor Trade: Hand-obtained directly from Mark Sampson in mid-1995. Sister Amp Pedigree: The matching sibling amp from this exact factory trade—a 1995 Matchless DC-30—was purchased from me directly by Fender Musical Instruments Corporation’s R&D department to serve as their official benchmark for component modeling. The build quality on this Chieftain is of that exact same reference-grade caliber. Verified Date Coding: The CTS pots carry the factory EIA date code R1379529. Breaking this down (137 = CTS, 95 = 1995, 29 = 29th week), this confirms a production date of mid-July 1995. 100% Original Transformers: Both custom-wound transformers feature the original factory "M" stamp and are hand-labeled with matching chassis Serial Number #3477, confirming complete factory originality and zero modifications/repairs. Internal and eternal Components, Including Speakers: All internal electrical and physical components are in absolutely and completely original, untouched, and in perfect condition. Condition, Startup & Electronics Cosmetic Condition: 10/10 Mint. Zero Tolex scuffs, zero grille cloth tears or fading, and a pristine chrome faceplate with no tarnishing. The iconic backlit Matchless logo functions perfectly. Capacitor Reforming Process: Understanding the severe risks of plugging in 30-year-old dormant electrolytic capacitors, this amp was NOT just plugged into a wall. It was safely
