A useful search ends with a clear understanding of the instrument and the total purchase. Use this checklist when comparing offers across shops, marketplaces and countries.
1. Identify the exact instrument
Start with brand, model, year and country of manufacture where available. Check that the description and photographs agree. Similar names can cover very different specifications. Serial numbers can support identification, but a number alone is not proof of authenticity or condition.
2. Ask for evidence of condition
Request current, well-lit photographs of the frets, neck joint, bridge and any repairs or damage. Ask about modifications, replaced parts and previous servicing. For acoustics, pay particular attention to structural repairs and bridge condition. For electrics, ask about pickup and control operation.
3. Compare the full cost
Retain the original currency when comparing converted estimates. Check the seller’s delivery cost, packing arrangements, included case and any additional cross-border charges that may apply. A marketplace headline price should not be treated as a final delivered total.
4. Check availability with the seller
A cached search result may outlive an offer. Open the original listing and confirm the instrument is still available before arranging payment or transport. Review the seller’s stated terms and communicate through a channel you can retain for reference.
