From the listing
We’ve just received a 1981 Gibson ES-335TD Walnut. It features wood materials typical of that era, including a laminated maple body, a three-piece maple neck with a volute, and a rosewood fingerboard. While plain maple necks are generally the norm, this particular guitar’s neck features a flame pattern, which, combined with its color, gives it a truly luxurious look. It is equipped with “Series VII (Tar Back)” pickups. It’s characterized by a crisp and powerful tone—clear when played clean, and delivering a strong, edgy sound when distorted. The serial numbers are 401781 for the front pickup and 400881 for the rear pickup; both were manufactured in 1981. The lower horn features a tap switch—a specification unique to this era—allowing you to tap each pickup. Although the specifications of this particular guitar match those of the ES-335 from that era, the label inside the F-hole reads “ES-355TD.” This is likely a factory error, though the details are unclear. While there are buckle marks, scratches, dents, and stand marks on the back of the neck and the body end, it remains in very good condition considering its age. Additionally, the case hardware shows rust and warping, making it difficult to open. This is a Vintage 335 with a beautiful flame-figured neck. It’s a highly authentic instrument in excellent condition. Please take this opportunity to consider purchasing it!! * Please note that due to the nature of the product, we are unable to transfer it between stores. Condition Grade: B+: Some minor scratches, but no issues with normal use Serial Number: 82931045 Year of Manufacture: 1981 Country of Manufacture: United States Case: Hard case Weight: 4 kg Truss Rod: No issues; checked up to 60 degrees to the left and right—no problems Fret Wear: Note: While the frets can still withstand filing, they are on the low side String Height (Low String Side): 2.0 mm at the 12th fret String action (treble side): 1.5 mm at the 12th fret Nut width: 42.9
