The Classic Goldtop: The “R7” Left-Handed Model with a Thick Neck That Roars The 1957 Les Paul Standard VOS Left Hand from the Gibson Custom Shop Historic Collection has arrived. Commonly known as the “R7,” this model is the flagship of the Historic Reissue series, faithfully recreating the specifications from 1957—the first year PAF humbuckers were introduced. In addition to the classic mahogany back and maple top construction, it features a solid body with no weight relief. It is equipped with Custombucker pickups. The vintage PAF-like sound produced by Alnico III magnets offers excellent balance—from the sweet, full-bodied front pickup to the clear, well-defined rear pickup—and handles a wide range of tones, from clean to overdriven. Due to the VOS finish, there are signs of mild aging, such as a loss of gloss in the paint and a slight tarnish on the metal parts; however, these are intentional features present since the guitar’s manufacture. There is a crack visible on the tuning peg button, but it does not affect playability. The neck is in good condition, and the g
