Gibson Custom Shop Japan Limited Run Historic Collection 1967 Flying V Reissue Stop-Bar VOS Sparkling Burgundy -2013- A used 2013 Historic Collection 1967 Flying V from the Japan Limited Run, finished in the custom color Sparkling Burgundy, has just arrived! The “1967 Flying V Reissue”—which is no longer part of the current lineup—features a mahogany body and neck with a rosewood fingerboard. The pointed headstock is equipped with a 3-ply truss rod cover bearing the Gibson logo and Kluson Single Line/Double Ring tuners. It recreates the 1967 Flying V from the “narrow-neck” era that began in 1965. The neck, with a nut width of approximately 40 mm, features dot position marks, 22 medium-jumbo frets, no binding, and a joint at the 17th fret. The hardware is nickel-plated and includes a non-wired ABR-1 bridge, a stopbar tailpiece, and black metal-top knobs. It is equipped with two potted “Custombucker Alnico 3” pickups—which were newly introduced at the time and are still used in the Historic Collection today—and features the standard Flying V control layout of 2 volume, 1 tone, and a 3-way selector. The finish is “Sparkling Burgundy,” a color used on select models from the late 1960s, and it still retains some of its reddish hue. While there are minor scratches, dents, scuffs, buckle marks, and some rust on parts due to use, it remains in relatively good condition considering it is over 20 years old. The frets retain sufficient height—about 80 percent—and we have confirmed that the truss rod rotates 60 degrees in both directions.
