Gibson Custom Shop Historic Collection 1961 Les Paul SG Standard with Maestro Vibrola, VOS Cherry Red -2002- A used 2002 Historic Collection 1961 Les Paul/SG Standard has just arrived! Featuring solid mahogany for both the body and neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and a set-neck construction with a long tenon—this guitar faithfully reproduces the vintage Gibson manufacturing methods still found in today’s Historic Collection. The headstock features the Gibson logo, a truss rod cover engraved with “Les Paul,” crown inlays, and Kluson Double Line/Single Ring tuners. The bound neck, adorned with dish inlays, features the signature SG “Slim Taper Neck Profile”—thin and easy to grip—and is equipped with 22 medium-jumbo frets. The hardware is nickel-plated and includes a non-wired ABR-1 bridge, a Maestro Long Vibrola unit, and black-hat knobs with metal tops. The pickups are the recently introduced “Burstbucker #1/#2,” which faithfully reproduce the actual specifications of the Patent Applied For (PAF) pickups originally installed starting in 1957. It is equipped with 2-volume, 2-tone, and a 3-way selector controls, utilizing CTS pots and Bumblebee replica capacitors. The guitar is finished in the classic “Cherry Red” color, which has faded slightly over time, giving it a somewhat lighter appearance. While it is in generally good condition, there are signs of use, including scratches, dents, scuffs, and buckle marks. The frets retain sufficient height—approximately 80% remaining—and we have confirmed that the truss rod rotates 60 degrees in both directions.
