Seller's description

C.F. Martin & Co. J-18M Jumbo (1989) – Rare Mahogany Jumbo Acoustic This Martin J-18M 1989 — also searched as J18M, Martin J 18M, Martin J-18M Jumbo, vintage Martin Jumbo, or Martin mahogany jumbo — is a rare and distinctive vintage Martin that combines the clear, woody character of Style 18 mahogany construction with the power and depth of Martin’s large J body. The J-18M was produced for a relatively short period and is considerably less common on the used market than models such as the D-18 or D-28. Martin’s J body uses the broad M/0000-style outline with the deeper body depth of a dreadnought, resulting in a powerful acoustic voice while retaining excellent balance and definition. Built with a solid spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides, this 1989 J-18M produces a strong, open sound with punchy mids, clear trebles, controlled bass, and excellent projection. The larger Jumbo body adds extra depth and presence while preserving the direct, articulate response associated with mahogany Martins. The scalloped X-bracing contributes to an open and responsive sound with excellent dynamic range. With its full 25.4” scale length, the guitar has plenty of headroom for strumming and flatpicking while remaining sensitive enough for lighter playing. The neck features Martin’s period Low Profile shape with a traditional 1 11/16” (42.9 mm) nut width. A rosewood fingerboard and bridge, understated Style 18 appointments, tortoise-style trim, and enclosed Schaller tuners complete the classic late-1980s Martin appearance. The Martin J-18M is an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys the tone of a D-18 but wants a larger, fuller and less common vintage Martin with its own distinctive character. This is a very rare vintage guitar in very good condition. There are natural weather checks on the guitar, signs of normal use, the bridge has been reglued, but there’s no cracks and the performance is really good with low action of 2.1-2.5 mm  ⸻ Specifications – Martin J-18M J
