Seller's description

A distinctive and highly regarded signature model from Gibson, this 2022 Tony Iommi “Monkey” SG Special is built to exacting factory specification, capturing the spirit and detail of one of rock’s most iconic instruments as associated with Tony Iommi. Finished in Vintage Cherry and lightly aged to reflect the character of the original, this example remains in excellent condition, showing only a few light playing marks from careful use. It has been well maintained and benefits from a professional setup, offering a smooth and highly playable feel across the neck. Constructed with a solid mahogany body and neck, and fitted with twin P-90 style pickups, the instrument delivers a raw and immediate tonal response. There is a pronounced midrange presence, with a gritty, open character that responds dynamically to picking attack. The low end remains tight and focused, while the upper frequencies cut clearly without harshness, making it equally capable of warm cleans and aggressive overdriven textures. Tonally, there is an unmistakable authority here—direct, punchy, and expressive, with a slightly compressed edge when driven, evoking the early heavy rock and proto-metal recordings that defined an era. It is a sound closely tied to the formative work of Black Sabbath, yet versatile enough to extend into blues, garage, and modern alternative styles. Complete with all original paperwork, the original hard case, and the all-important “Monkey” sticker, this is a well-kept and highly playable example of a sought-after signature model. There is a very small lacquer chip on the edge of the headstock, this is the only significant mark that we can find aside from light playing marks in keeping with a used but cared for guitar. A compelling piece for players and collectors alike, offering both historical significance and immediate musical utility.
