The Gibson Custom 1954 Les Paul Custom Reissue VOS in Ebony recreates the earliest full-production version of the legendary “Black Beauty”, before the Les Paul Custom adopted the twin-humbucker layout with which it would later become associated. Its construction is particularly significant. Unlike a Les Paul Standard, the 1954 Custom uses a solid mahogany body without a maple cap, paired with a solid mahogany neck and genuine ebony fingerboard. The result is an instrument with its own distinctive character rather than simply a more ornate Standard. The electronics are equally unusual: a Custom Staple pickup at the neck is paired with a Soapbar P-90 at the bridge, providing a blend of articulate, hi-fi neck tones and rawer, more immediate P-90 attack. Finished in classic Ebony with gold hardware and Gibson’s subtle VOS factory ageing, this Pre-Owned example is offered in Mint condition and includes a hardcase and case candy.
