The Fender Japan TLG-94P Telecaster Custom, commonly known as the 50th Anniversary Telecaster, is a rare and highly distinctive mid-1990s Japanese Fender combining traditional Telecaster architecture with some of the most extravagant cosmetic appointments seen on a production Tele from the period. Its standout features include pearloid body binding, matching pearloid pickguard, gold hardware, matching headstock and rosewood fingerboard, creating a look quite unlike a conventional Telecaster. Underneath the elaborate cosmetics is a straightforward vintage-style Tele formula, with two single-coil pickups, traditional Volume and Tone controls and a 3-way selector. These Japanese-built TLG models have developed a strong following among Fender Japan enthusiasts and are also associated with The Edge of U2, who has been pictured using a similarly specified example.
