Seller's description

The Fender Custom Shop 1966 Precision Bass Journeyman Relic celebrates the iconic instrument at a rather interesting juncture in its storied history. Having been sold to CBS the year before, Fender was slowly transitioning to its new ownership, and most of its instruments had yet to see notable changes to their designs, as they surely would by the dawn of the next decade. For this flawless rendition, Fender’s elite Custom Shop luthiers revisited the original instruments, poured over schematics, and painstakingly re-created the classic instrument in minute detail — a process that involved restored original tooling dies, newly voiced electronics, reformulated vintage finishes, and more. With its satisfying Oval “C” quarter-sawn maple neck and punchy, hand-wound ’65/’70 P Bass split-coil pickup, the Fender Custom Shop 1966 Precision Bass Journeyman Relic delivers off-the-charts playability and tone. And its 3-ply parchment pickguard and gently aged nitro finish are to die for. If you’ve been looking for an affordable original transition-era Precision in perfect condition — that’s a rare unicorn.
