While the rest of the world reversed their headstocks, became pointier/sharktoothier, neon coloured and clad in man made fibres, Gibson decided to reject their brief foray into modernity and futurism and embrace tradition. Brown guitars for blue music. This one is a particularly good kind of brown, and features the coveted Tim Shaw PAFs. It's not exactly a 1:1 reissue of the OG dot in terms of neck shape and proportion, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. 1984 is also the year production was moved from Kalamazoo to Nashville, so this guitar is right on the fulcrum of change, tilting in both directions at once. Great cosmetic shape all around, very little playwear. The only real sign of age is frets dressed down a hair (but still with the binding nibs) and some environmental patina on the nickel hardware. Action is comfy, rosewood board is healthy and hydrated. All ridgy didge everything, but the pickups have been in and out we reckon. Some evidence of resoldering here and there. Patent applied for stickers on pickup surrounds remain in tact. Grab it now before somebody arrives in a time machine and takes it back to the future.
